Fall is seriously one of the best times of the year to hang out with your friends. It’s finally not insanely hot outside, everything looks prettier, and there are so many things to do that you really can’t do the same way during the rest of the year.
If your group chat is constantly saying “we need to hang out” but nobody ever knows what to do, this list is for you.
Here are 10 fall activities that are actually fun to do with friends.
1. Go to a Pumpkin Patch 🎃
Okay, yes, this is probably the most obvious fall activity ever, but pumpkin patches are actually so much fun with the right people.
You can walk around, get apple cider, take pictures, look at all the pumpkins, and just hang out without really needing a plan.
To make it more interesting, turn pumpkin picking into a challenge.
See who can find:
- The smallest pumpkin
- The biggest pumpkin
- The weirdest-looking pumpkin
- The most perfect pumpkin
- A pumpkin that somehow looks like one of your friends
You could also have everyone choose a pumpkin for someone else instead of picking their own.
And obviously, take pictures. You’re already surrounded by pumpkins and fall leaves. You might as well.
2. Have a Fall Movie Night 🍿
Sometimes you really don’t need to leave the house to have a good night.
Get a bunch of blankets, turn the lights down, make popcorn, grab way too many snacks, and have everyone pick a movie.
You could do a scary movie night if your group likes horror, or you could go in the complete opposite direction and watch comfort movies all night.
Make everyone bring one snack or drink too.
You’ll probably end up with the weirdest combination of chips, candy, cookies, popcorn, hot chocolate, and random drinks, but that honestly makes it better.
3. Go Take Fall Pictures 📸
Find a park, trail, pumpkin patch, or basically anywhere with colorful trees and go take pictures together.
And don’t spend the whole time trying to get perfect Instagram pictures.
Take the bad ones too.
Take jumping pictures. Throw leaves at each other. Take fake candid pictures that are very obviously not candid.
You could even make a photo challenge:
- A jumping picture
- A group selfie
- A picture throwing leaves
- A picture that looks like an album cover
- A picture where nobody smiles
- A recreation of an old picture of your friend group
At the end, put everything in the group chat and vote for the funniest picture.
There’s a pretty good chance the worst picture will end up being everyone’s favorite.
4. Carve Pumpkins Together 🎃
Instead of carving pumpkins by yourself at home, get your friends together and turn it into a competition.
Put on music, order food, spread everything out, and give everyone their own pumpkin.
Then vote on different categories like:
- Funniest pumpkin
- Scariest pumpkin
- Cutest pumpkin
- Most creative pumpkin
- Best pumpkin
- Worst pumpkin
The worst pumpkin category is honestly necessary because somebody’s pumpkin is definitely going to turn out completely different from what they planned.
If you don’t want pumpkin guts all over the place, buy some paint and decorate pumpkins instead.
5. Go to a Haunted House 👻
Every friend group has at least one person who says they “don’t get scared.”
Take that person to a haunted house.
Haunted houses are so much better with friends because everybody reacts differently.
One person is screaming. One person is hiding behind everybody else. One person is laughing the whole time. And somebody somehow starts running even though they know they aren’t supposed to.
Whoever gets guessed the most has to prove everyone wrong.
Or completely prove them right.
Either way, go get food afterward and talk about who embarrassed themselves the most.
6. Have a Fall Baking Night 🍪
You do not have to know how to bake for this one.
Honestly, it might be funnier if nobody does.
Pick a fall dessert and try making it together:
- Pumpkin cookies
- Cinnamon rolls
- Apple pie
- Caramel apples
- Pumpkin bread
- Halloween cupcakes
- Fall sugar cookies
If you have enough people, split into teams and make the same dessert.
Then taste-test both and decide who won.
Just know that someone will probably burn something, somebody will eat half the ingredients before you finish, and the kitchen will be a disaster.
That’s part of it.
7. Make a Fall Bucket List 🍁
Instead of constantly trying to figure out what to do every weekend, make one giant fall bucket list with your friends.
Put everything you want to do before fall ends on it.
Some ideas:
- Go to a pumpkin patch
- Try a new fall drink
- Go to a football game
- Have a bonfire
- Bake something
- Watch a scary movie
- Go thrifting
- Take fall pictures
- Carve pumpkins
- Watch the sunset
- Have a sleepover
- Get hot chocolate
- Make s’mores
- Go on a late-night drive
Put the list in your group chat and check things off whenever you do them.
You could also take one picture from every activity and make a huge fall photo dump at the end of fall.
8. Have a Bonfire 🔥
Bonfires are one of those plans that don’t sound complicated at all but somehow always end up being one of the best nights.
Get some chairs, blankets, snacks, music, and stuff to make s’mores.
Then just hang out.
Talk, play games, tell embarrassing stories, listen to music, or sit around doing absolutely nothing productive.
You can also make a s’mores bar instead of only using regular chocolate.
Try things like:
- Peanut butter cups
- White chocolate
- Cookies instead of graham crackers
- Caramel
- Different flavored marshmallows
Also, bring an extra hoodie.
Somebody will say they aren’t cold.
Ten minutes later, they will be cold.
9. Go Thrifting and Pick Out Outfits for Each Other 🛍️
This can go wrong really fast, which is exactly why it’s fun.
Go to a thrift store, set a budget, and have everyone pick out an outfit for someone else.
You can either actually try to make them look cute or choose the most ridiculous clothes you can possibly find.
Then everybody has to try their outfit on.
You might find something you actually love.
Or your friends might hand you the ugliest sweater you have ever seen.
There is really no in-between.
10. Plan a Full Fall Day 🍂
If everybody is free for an entire Saturday, make the whole day fall-themed instead of doing just one thing.
Start with breakfast or coffee. Then go to a pumpkin patch, take pictures somewhere pretty, go thrifting, get dinner, and finish the night carving pumpkins or watching movies.
☕ Morning: Get coffee or breakfast
🎃 Late Morning: Go to a pumpkin patch
📸 Afternoon: Take pictures and go thrifting
🍕 Evening: Get dinner
🎬 Night: Carve pumpkins and watch a movie
You definitely do not have to stick to some exact schedule either.
Pick a few things everyone wants to do and see where the day goes.
Usually the random parts you didn’t plan end up being the funniest anyway.
🍁 Just Make the Plans
The hardest part of hanging out with friends is somehow getting everyone to actually agree on a day.
So stop saying “we should do that sometime.”
Pick something. Choose a day. And actually do it.
It doesn’t need to be expensive, perfectly planned, or look like something you saw on Pinterest.
Grab your friends, put on your favorite hoodie, take way too many pictures, and enjoy fall while it’s here.
Because before you know it, everyone is going to be complaining about how cold it is. 🍂
